The difference between a strut and a normal shock is that a strut carries some of the weight of the car. Most of the time, the spring is mounted on the strut. In case of any compression on the strut, or the spring, or both, the wheel moves upwards towards the body of the car. The mechanism of the coilover is similar. It has a longer coil spring that is coiled around the strut. For the upward movement of the wheel, both the shock and the spring must compress. ICON Vehicle Dynamics V.S. 2.5 Series internal reservoir front coilover shocks are an incredible upgrade for the front end of the 2005-2023 Toyota Tacoma. These adjustable coilovers allow up to 0-3.5” of lift height adjustability on 2005-2015 models or 0-2.75” of lift height adjustability on 2016-2023 models, allowing the use of larger, more aggressive wheel and tire combinations. ICON’s Vehicle-specific shock length and valving along with the larger 2.5” shock body and increased piston area over stock components yield the maximum travel possible along with superior ride quality and suspension performance both on- and off-road. Their extended travel length allows for more wheel travel but also requires the installation of aftermarket front upper control arms. To better support the weight of additional accessories such as aftermarket front bumpers and winches, these coilovers include ICON engineered coil springs with an increased, 700 lbs/in spring rate, allowing for taller ride heights with increased front end weight. When paired with ICON 2.0 or 2.5 Aluminum Series rear shock absorbers vehicle control will be balanced front to rear, resulting in the best overall driving experience for your Toyota Tacoma.
